Jonathan Van Ee's Story
Summary
For about two and a half years my fingers were in continual pain from typing on a computer.  I visited a variety of highly regarded doctors, took anti inflamatory medications, went to physical therapy, iced my hands, and more.  My condition progressively worsened, even though I stopped typing completely.  Eventually, I effectively lost the use of my hands.  From that low point, I rapidly recovered by pushing through the pain.  Today I am back to living the intense life I'm used to, typing for several hours at a time, and do not feel the same debilitating pain.
Ok, The Story
I am an active person.  In college, I had three majors: Spanish, Business Administration and Political Science.  My G.P.A. in each of these majors was 4.0 (my overall G.P.A. was slightly over 3.8).  In addition, I taught Spanish part time, and took Russian and French courses.  After graduating from Columbia Law School I worked at large law firms in New York and California.  More recently, I have written a few art books, and other publications.  I have also created a number of websites, including jonathanvanee.com (with my artwork), turbofinances.com, and others listed in the about page of this site.

That intense and fruitful lifestyle completely stopped.  I became completely inactive, suffering overwhelming continuous pain.  This is the story of how I overcame that pain.

One of the most stressful times in my life came one December when many big events occurred in a short time.  I shopped around for condos, bought one, and then moved in.  After shopping extensively for the best mortgage interest rate, I locked in a great rate.  Also, my law job became busy.  This all combined with the busyness of the holiday season.

The stress came to a head at work.

Secretarial support was minimal.  This meant I would have to do much - and often all - of the extensive typing required for my job.  Right before the holidays started, all my billable hours had to be entered into the law firm's database.  This was a huge task.  I typed fast for about two hours.

That's when the pain started, and it did not go away.

The back of my fingers ached everytime I typed therafter.  This kind of injury is commonly called a "repetitive stress injury" or "RSI".  The source of the injury is believed by many to be repeated keystrokes.  I also developed a stress headache.  Thinking this was like any other injury or soreness, I tried to just take it easy until I got better.
